'HAPPILY SINGLE' The Benefits Of Not Having A Boyfriend

by Philip Lop
When it comes to being single, society can sometimes treat you as though you have some sort of disease. In films and books, single women are often portrayed as helpless and hapless, but the reality is that Bridget Jones isn’t necessarily representative of single ladies.
Being boyfriend-less may seem slightly miserable when all your friends are being whisked out for romantic meals or vacations, but the single life certainly doesn’t have to be seen in a negative light. There are plenty of reasons why many women are quite happily single.
1. Enjoy a wilder social life
Many single women continue to enjoy a wild social life long after their other friends have settled down with boyfriends or husbands. When you have no boyfriend, you are free to do what you want, when you want, with whom you want, allowing you absolute freedom. You have no responsibility to spend time with friends or family members that you don’t really like. You have no need to attend dull business networking events in support of your boyfriend’s career. Instead, you can simply enjoy the company of your friends, happy in the knowledge that whatever you do, it’s your choice.
2. You can look and feel better
Research published in the journal ‘Obesity’ and cited on the Fitbie Web site indicates that being single may actually be better for your body. Couples’ habits, such as curling up in front of the sofa and eating large meals together, are much more likely to lead to unwanted weight gain. If you are a single woman, you stand a much better chance of sticking to an exercise routine. You won’t need to cook large, unwanted meals just for the sake of your boyfriend or husband, either. According to Fitbie, cohabiting increases the risk of female obesity by 63 percent.
3. Every penny you earn is yours
Single women don’t have to justify what they spend to anyone. If you want to go out and buy that gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choos you saw over the weekend, there’s nobody to stop you (bank manager aside). Being attached to somebody else inevitably brings with it financial responsibilities and commitments, which can often wear very thin. If you’re really good with your cash, why should you let a man interfere and mess it all up for you anyway?
4. You don’t need to apologize for your career
Successful career women often find that their husbands or boyfriends feel jealous or threatened. This can create a lot of friction that doesn’t exist if you are single. Single career women don’t need to worry about their partners or about having children and can focus on being successful at something that they love doing. Many successful career women argue that they wouldn’t have achieved their aims if they had been involved in a relationship, which brings with it distractions and commitments that can easily get in the way.
5. Single life can make it easier to find ‘the right one’
Happily single women have an easier time finding true love. Women who are fixated on finding and being with somebody frequently fall into bad relationships with the wrong person and often start to lose self-esteem. Happily single women are generally much more confident, much more independent, and therefore, ironically, much more attractive. Pursuing your own interests and being truly happy in what you do are great ways to develop just the right mindset to meet people.
Being a single, boyfriend-less woman doesn’t have to be seen in a negative light. Countless single women love their lives just the way they are and have plenty of life lessons that wives and girlfriends could learn from.

Father Allegedly Raped And Impregnated 14 year-old Daughter In Lagos

Thirty six-year-old Aminu Ajao has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta magistrate’s court for allegedly r*ping and impregnating his 14-year-old primary school daughter (name withheld).

Ajao was arraigned on Monday on two counts of r*pe.

The police said the incident happened on Wale Azeez Street, Ajasa, Lagos State.

The magistrate, Ms S.O Solebo, called the victim’s mother and her stepmother to court to give an account of how the event unfolded.

The victim’s mother, who did not disclose her name in court, said she had separated from Ajao and had remarried.

She said, “After our separation, I took my daughter to live with my mother. But in October, 2013, he went to my mother’s house and took her from there.

“It was from that time that he started pressuring the girl before sleeping with her and impregnating her.”

Ajao’s new wife, who was nursing a baby, said she was not aware of the incident until the matter got to the police.

“It was in October last year that he brought the girl to be staying with us. While I slept in the room, she stayed in the parlour and I didn’t know anything was going on,” she said.

The magistrate became angry when the victim’s mother told the court she had taken her daughter back to the grandmother, adding, “My sisters will take care of her ante-natal.”

Solebo said, “You sound so irresponsible. She is your own child and you are saying your sisters will take her for ante-natal care at her grandmother’s place. If they had exercised due diligence and care, maybe she would not have been taken away by her father.”

The magistrate thereafter called the Office of the Public Defender for custody of the girl.

“She is 14 and she is pregnant. Her body is not developed to carry the pregnancy. I am very interested in how the girl fares,” she added.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odige told the court that the crime was punishable under sections 135(1)(2) and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

Odige thereafter applied that the matter be transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

However, the defence counsel, Ola Ogunbiyi, pleaded with the court to admit Ajao to bail in liberal terms.

Ogunbiyi said Ajao had emaciated because he had been in detention for a long time.

Reacting, Solebo said, “The punishment for the offence is life imprisonment. Already, a medical report from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital has indicated that she was pregnant as of November, 2013. The police, who investigated the matter said she was pregnant for her father. So, what do you want me to do?

“In view of Section 115(2) and in view of the offence and the nature of the punishment, bail is hereby refused the defendant. The defendant is to be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from the DPP.”

The matter was adjourned till February 19, 2014.

5 Soldiers,7 Civilians Killed As Fulani Herdsmen Attack Benue Community

fulani-600x423
No fewer than five soldiers and seven civilians were killed, Sunday morning, by suspected Fulani herdsmen in a fresh outbreak of a bloody crisis in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Sources said the dead soldiers were part of the detachment of military personnel from the 72 Airborne Brigade in Makurdi who were dispatched to the crisis zone to maintain peace.
Contacted on the development, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. John Ngbede, said the marauders attacked Agatu in their usual gorilla fashion at about 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the state secretary of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, an umbrella body of the Fulani herdsmen, Garus Gololo, also expressed disgust at the renewed crisis.
“I am alarmed because this latest crisis is comming at a time when measures are being put in place to ensure a check on any form of crisis between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities in Benue State,” Gololo said.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed the story, saying: “The situation is under control as enough policemen have been drafted to affected communities and we have also commenced investigation into the matter.”

I am Not A Thief,My Problem Is Spiritual-Actress Yetunde Akilapa

Upcoming Nollywood actress, Yetunde Akilapa was allegedly caught trying to burgle a house located at 16 Ibitoye Street, Magado, Lagos on Sunday, January 12. She was badly beaten by residents of the house and photos from the incident sent to the press. (Pictures above)

It was her second stealing incident in one year. In February 2013, the actress was involved in a home break-in incident in the Shomolu area of Lagos for which she was allegedly arrested, prosecuted and remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison for six months. Just two months after she was released, she was caught stealing again. But Yetunde says she's not a Kleptomaniac, that her problem is spiritual.
"I am not a thief. I didn't steal anything. I dont know what is happening to me. I have every reason to believe my problem is spiritual. I can't even explain the circumstance I found myself. People should not ruin my life and career. I am fed up with life. I am not what people think I am. I have never been to Kirikiri Maximum Prison as alleged. God please help me out of this mess! As I am speaking with you now, I am in Ibadan, Oyo state seeking the face of God and I believe I would get out of this dilemma one day. I am not a kleptomaniac. I have not stolen anything" she told Encoimum magazine. Continue..
Yetunde was also rumored to have been banned from the Odunfa Caucus of the Yoruba Movie Industry, an allegation she refuted stating she had called her bosses and they said such a decision was never taken.

She said 'There is nothing like that. When I heard that rumor, I called all my bosses, and they said there was nothing like that. So it's just a rumor. People are only interested in fueling issues because of my situation. Nobody banned me from acting".

Reacting to the ban allegation, Yomi Fabiyi who is a member of the Odunfa caucus spoke on behalf of the group.
"My opinion is that the association has procedures. With the report highlighted on social media, it looked half baked. To me, half truth is worse than a lie. I want to believe if she was caught with stolen items, the items must have been stated. She said they found her with four keys and nothing suggest the keys fit into any of the doors there. The association would even have to investigate the matter, especially when the reporter seem to be filing his report on a third party account. If there was any ban whatsoever, where is the proof? Then who banned her from acting? The association does not condone crime in any form and will act on authentic information. So Yetunde Akilapa to me has not been banned, But that will be investigated if necessary" Fabiyi told Encomium magazine
Counsel to Yetunde Akilapa, Barrister Bosun Osifowora released a statement on the issues about Yetunde's theft story, her alleged Kirikiri prison detention as well as her ban from the Odunfa Caucus of the Yoruba Movie Industry.

His statement reads:
"We write to expressly correct the impression that Yetunde Akilapa has been banned or suspended. She has not received verbal or written notice to that effect. Yetunde is sorry and remorseful that her name is involved in such things. She has very much regard for the industry and Odunfa Caucus, more reason she fights hard to always clear her name. It is ridiculous to suggest she wil be expelled when it is abundantly cleared that she has been cleared of any wrong doing but needs physical and spiritual help. There is no dignity fighting someone on the floor.
We also like to correct the following impressions:
* Yetunde was never in Kirikiri prisons during the first case. The matter was charged to court and bail application was granted  and condition met same day which the media was aware of. The case lasted three months and she attended court from home, not from custody.
* There was nothing like master key and on no account did the police say the keys found on her were compared to the key hole of the rooms in the hosue and it opened. Why are journalist feeding people with stories so untrue? They were her keys, just four pieces.
* On this second case, whoever broke the news lied. Yetunde was never accused of stealing. The accuser suspects she may have been sent to drop some fetish substance. Must lies sell stories?
* The case got a twist when in an effort to prove her innocence of diabolical intentions, she confidently stated she is a budding actress. One of the guys googled her name and found the previous story, hit her in a swift reaction, hence she fainted. The guy has since apologized.
* It was on this note that the police was informed and the matter was settled and it was abundantly clear her accusers were also at fault. One thing now led to another until it dawned on her, after public accusation she began to realize she is in the wrong place.
* We are all Africans, efforts are in top gear to find a lasting solution to this menace. She needs your prayers, not your persecution now.
